FOUNDATION DEVELOPS HEALING GARDEN FOR ONCOLOGY PATIENTS
Thanks to generous funding from donors and community members, the Thomas Health Foundation is proud to provide funding for the new Healing Garden for Thomas Health oncology patients.
Oncology patients can now receive their treatment outside in a calm and peaceful garden setting. The area, which is located just outside the Cancer Center on MacCorkle Avenue, features a new stone wall, wide display of colorful plants and flowers, comfortable outdoor furniture (coming in the Spring) and music to add to the soothing atmosphere. A smooth paver surface allows IV poles to easily be wheeled across the patio to the patients’ area of choice. The Healing Garden will be only accessible to patients entering from inside the Cancer Center and will not be open to the public.
“The Healing Garden will allow our patients to incorporate nature into their cancer journey. Fresh air, beautiful surroundings, and a comfortable atmosphere will aid in lowering anxiety while receiving their chemotherapy,” says Erin Jackson, Director of Oncology Services.
No two patients are alike, and neither are their treatment preferences. However, the Foundation’s hope is for this Healing Garden to deliver on the universal desire for comfort and further extend Thomas Health’s incredible mission of compassionate and exceptional healthcare.
Jackson continued, “The utilization of the Healing Garden will benefit cancer patients for years to come. We are so grateful to the Thomas Health Foundation and all of those that supported this special project. You will never fully understand the difference you have made.”
This project could not have been made possible without the kindness and generosity of funding from not only the Foundation, but also the Thomas Health Employee Giving Club, the Thomas Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Dow, the Employees of Electronic Specialty and Rumble for a Cure. And a special thank you to Valley Gardens for working with us on this exciting project.
We would like to extend a great deal of gratitude for the work that the Thomas Health Cancer Center (THCC) team performs day in and day out.
